Erik Balkey: Bio

He's a moody, humorous, down and out, spirited, deadpan, self-conscious singer-songwriter and sloppy poet who isn't comfortable talking about himself in the third person but expects he'll get used to it.

I writes songs, and I record many of them. I'm also a colorblind housepainter, and a sensitive custom song writer. I write fifty songs a year, and some of them aren't too bad. I'm kind of like Greg Brown except that I edit. Not too much 'tho. I mean I'd like to be Leonard Cohen, but I don't have the patience. Maybe I'm like a hundred monkeys at a hundred typewriters typing randomly forever (which will eventually produce both "War & Peace" and the Yankees-Pirates 1960 Game Seven Box score)... and, it's all I can do to keep the monkeys fed and clean the monkey crap.

I'm a navel-gazing songwriter. And, so are my heroes. I also write songs for other people and songs about important-er stuff... but, mostly these songs are for me, too.
